Victorian Arsinoe Coin & Diamond Brooch
This fabulous 18KT gold French brooch features a gorgeous ancient coin depicting Arsinoë II of Philadelphus, wife of Ptolemy II. Arsinoë II was a co-regent of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of ancient Egypt who died circa 270 B.C. This AV Octodrachm gold coin was struck in the Alexandria Mint under Ptolemy VI-VIII, ca. 180-116 B.C. The obverse side of the coin features a veiled woman in profile wearing a stephanos wreath and ram's horn; with the letter K to left. The reverse features the text "APΣINOHΣ ΦIΛAΔEΛΦOY," with a filleted double cornucopia accented with hanging grape bunches. The frame of the brooch (circa 1900) is haloed with 32 bead set, old European-cut diamonds, weighing 4.08 carats in total, with SI1-SI2 clarity and H-I color. The brooch is finished with a pin stem and "C" catch and features a French hallmark.
